Health experts say eating seafood too often or with excessive portions can cause adverse effects on the body’s cholesterol levels.

1.  Pay attention to the portion

Here are some things we should pay attention to if you want to consume them.

Health experts from the American Heart Association say daily cholesterol intake should be limited to a maximum of 300 milligrams. If our cholesterol intake exceeds this limit, then bad cholesterol levels will increase significantly. This will trigger a buildup of plaque in the blood vessels which is feared to cause heart disease or a potentially deadly stroke.

Seafood is indeed high in , but that does not mean we should really avoid it. We can still consume it as long as the portion is not excessive. For example, if we want to consume crabs, shrimp, or shellfish, we should limit the consumption to a maximum of 8 ounces a week. This is caused by the cholesterol level in seafood in that amount which has reached around 226 milligrams.

2.  Process it in the right way

Although it can make seafood taste better, processing it by frying it can make these foods have higher levels of trans fat. If we consume excessively, it is feared that it can cause an increase in bad cholesterol levels in the body.

Health experts advise us to process seafood by roasting it, boiling it, or steaming it. If you want to use oil, saute it with a small amount of oil. Quite a lot of seafood menus that are not fried but have delicious flavors such as grilled fish, fish pepes, grilled fish, boiled shellfish, fish soup, and others.

3.  Maximize spices, not salt

Salt can indeed make the taste of food, including seafood, become more savory. It’s just that, considering seafood also usually already has high levels of sodium or cholesterol, it’s best not to add salt when consuming it. It could be, we actually consume sodium excessively and eventually this will trigger an increase in blood pressure.
